Beautiful Istrian Places To Visit

VISIT PULA

Pula is the largest city in Istria. Along with all the beautiful places that you can see while visiting Pula, there is one place you definitely don't want to miss - the Amphiteather.

It is the most famous and most significant monument, where every tour of the city begins and ends, a building where the gladiator fights were organized. It was built in the 1st century, during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time with the largest and most famous building of this kind - Colosseum in Rome.

Every week during the summer months, the Arena hosts gladiator fights as part of the historical entertainment show “Spectacvla Antiqva”.

MAGICAL GROZNJAN

Just 20 minutes from Umag, the medieval town of Grožnjan is the town of artists and music. The hill, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, was a sandstone elevation resulting from soil splitting caused by two streams: Kanistran and Pistion. From Grožnjan there is a view of twenty surrounding Istrian towns, on the valley of Mirna, and on the sea from Novigrad to Umag. Shrubs and castles point to its medieval past, and almost every entrance preserves some of its story of the ancient Graecinians.

BREATHTAKING ROVINJ

Situated on the west coast of Istria, Rovinj is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Croatia. The old town is built on an island, which was only connected with the mainland in the 18th century. Known as one of the most picturesque and romantic towns on the Mediterranean, over the last few decades Rovinj attracts a large number of tourists, most of them faithfully returning year after year.

Why do they come back? Maybe it is the feeling of ancient traditions and architecture that tourists feel as they walk around the old town's cobbled narrow streets. Or maybe it is the 22 islands and islets, with their mild Mediterranean climate, carefully designed parks, the friendliness of the local population or numerous and varied town events. Or all of it combined!

EXPLORE POREC

Porec is a tourist center famous for its beautiful natural landscape. The main streets are Decumanus and Cardo Maximus, still preserved in their original forms. Marafor is a Roman square with two temples attached. The Euphrasian Basilica, rebuilt in the 6th century under the Byzantine Empire and bishop Euphrasius, is the most important historical site in Parenzo.

MEDIEVAL TOWN MOTOVUN

Motovun is a town in central Istria, located on top of a steep hill that dominates the Mirna River, with a staircase of 1052 steps leads up to it. It is attractive because of its medieval atmosphere (the walls in the shape of a ring and two half rings) with a view spreading over vineyards and fields of the Motovun forest, which belong in the category of Forest Parks. It is the center of congress and cultural tourism - this is the headquarters of the International Research Centre for Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages and the International Center of Anthropological Sciences (ICAM). Motovun hosts a traditional film festival at the end of July that has become an integral part of the Croatian cultural offer. During the summer there is also an international summer school of architecture and an international summer school of health. The Motovun forest is a habitat for underground mushrooms called truffles that are extracted with the help of specially trained dogs.
